Welcome!

Welcome to my personal weather website!

This website publishes current and historical observations from my private weather station since 10 November 2024. All weather data are collected, processed, and published automatically. The purpose of this website is to document local weather conditions and make both current and historical observations available to anyone interested in the weather.

Location

This private weather station is located in Bad Herrenalb-Kullenmühle, Baden-Württemberg, in south-western Germany, at an elevation of approximately 360 m above mean sea level (AMSL). The station is situated in the hilly landscape of the Northern Black Forest, a low mountain range characterized by elevations ranging from about 300 to over 900 m AMSL. Although situated within the valley, the weather station itself is installed on a small hill approximately 30 m above the valley floor. The site is open towards the west, which is the prevailing wind direction, while a few trees are located about 10 m to the east. The surrounding area is predominantly covered by coniferous and mixed forest, making it representative of the region's typical landscape and climate.

Weather Observations

Depending on the available sensors, the weather station records and publishes measurements such as:

  • Air temperature (2 m AGL, with radition shielding and active ventilation)
  • Relative humidity (2 m AGL)
  • Dew point (2 m AGL)
  • Barometric pressure
  • Rainfall and rainrate (1 m AGL)
  • Wind/Gust speed and wind direction (2 m AGL, experimentally calibrated to 10 m AGL)
  • Air temperature at 5 cm (AGL, without radiation shielding)
  • Soil temperature and moisture at 10 and 60 cm depth (filled soil)
  • Additional derived meteorological parameters like Heat Index and Wind Chill

Technology

The weather station is powered by the open-source software WEEWX 5.1.0 using the Belchertown Skin. I am really grateful for all these excellent developments.

Interactive charts are generated using locally hosted Highcharts libraries. Additional weather maps and forecast information may be provided by external services such as Windy and AerisWeather / Xweather. The station is also registered at Windy and Weather Underground.
